In the service of health for more than 300 years

In 1701, the pharmacist Balthasar Rechenberg was granted the royal privilege to establish a pharmacy in Berlin. It was originally located in the heart of the city, on the corner of Heide-Reutergasse and Spandauer Strasse. The name Apotheke zum weißen Schwan is associated with great personalities from pharmacy and medicine, such as Valentin Rose the Younger. He followed in his father's footsteps as a pharmacist and surpassed his father's fame with the discovery of double-carbonated sodium bicarbonate and the plant sugar inulin. His father, Valentin Rose the Elder, had previously made a name for himself with the discovery of Rose's metal, a lead-tin alloy.
Around 1840, Theodor Fontane completed his apprenticeship at the Apotheke zum weißen Schwan. He describes this time very vividly in his work "Between Twenty and Thirty ..." .
When the centre of Berlin was completely destroyed by a bomb in 1945, shortly before the capitulation, the Apotheke zum weißen Schwan was also affected. An emergency pharmacy, which was temporarily set up in Weinmeisterstraße, did not fulfil the requirements of a full pharmacy and so the search was on for new premises. The choice fell on Rahnsdorf, where the pharmacy reopened under its old name in 1950.
From 1960 to 1991 she was in municipal administration, from 1991 Gisela Jentsch ran the pharmacy for 10 years. From 2001 to 2024, Ina Jentsch was the owner of what is now a public pharmacy and the mail-order pharmacy founded in 2006. The handover of ownership to pharmacist Katerina Petrovska took place at the beginning of July 2024.
